The Icelandic children's clothing brand Ígló + Indí in collaboration with Un Women in Iceland have designed sweaters for both adults and children to support women’s only spaces in refugee camps ran by the UN around the world, including Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Serbia, Macedonia, Jordan and Iraq.According to the UN, there are 65 million refugees around the world, half of which are women. Female refugees are especially vulnerable to violence and human trafficking.UN Women's women's spaces in refugee camps provide female refugees with a community, where they are given the opportunity to develop their language skills, computer knowledge, sewing and tailoring skills. They are taught how to create business plans and study accounting. They are supported in launching their own businesses and regain their independence. The community helps them regain their confidence and dignity and the companionship and peer support are incredibly important as many otherwise face social isolation. In the women's spaces, female refugees regain their independence, they are empowered, they make friends and find joy.
We at DÓTTIR are honored and proud to have taken part in this amazing cause, everybody that worked on this project gave their hard work. We would like to thank PIPAR/TBWA . ÍGLÓ x INDÍ and UN WOMEN in Iceland for an amazing collaboration.
